If it were free to make it, then I'd say give it away for free. But, most of these Gospel Artists whether singers or rappers have to pay for production, art, etc., so it's not possible to donate all of their music and survive. Also, when the music is ministry, if someone is feeling it then they should mind supporting it with some dollars, so that the artist can pay the bills and produce more. Still with all of these mega-churches and no platinum gospel artists, it really speaks volumes as to the lack of support from the church. People will picket secular rap music or secular r&b music but won't even buy music that could help them or their kids, which is the absolute most ridiculous thing that I see and kind of stupid to not support one's own too.

Gospel music is an artistic expression. So, I would not classify it as God's Word per se. Also, it's not wrong to sell such an expression. I agree with TruthTella on the fact that selling the music can be a way to financially support the continued production of the music.

God is definitely blessing all artists with the opportunity to make music. Whether an artist gives the music away or sells it is up to the artist to decide based on his/her own personal convictions in following Christ. God has not given a blanket command on the issue in His Word. Therefore, it is up to us to live in liberty regarding this issue - allowing one another to decide based on God's leading.

I sell music/beats to support the international ministry efforts God has blessed me with. I also give music away to artists in a special arrangement I call, "Souls for Dollars". It's a trade-off. The artist agrees to give me periodic status reports of how many souls they reach using the music, instead of paying me money. In my case, God as blessed me TREMENDOUSLY - financially and in all other aspects of my life. But nothing beats getting a praise report and pictures showing how God is using you to reach and convert souls for Him.

Keep your focus on Christ and His kingdom, FIRST, and you will get all you need and a lot of what you want.
