Fam, I just read an article in the newspaper where BET's Bob Johnson (the Original Founder of BET) states: "BET was not developed for any other purpose but to Make Money..." He then goes on to state "I make no apologies for the music videos and this network was not of the community and had no obligation to it....(para)"
The newspaper then went on to cowardly (in my opinion) applaud BET as being a hero, while noting that he was a villain and despised by many.
Here's what I think: Using the laws of the universe: Every Action Has an Equal and Opposite Reaction. So, let's apply this law to Bob Johnson. Bob Johnson built BET to essential pimp the Black community, using his own words: "To make money and only worry about making money without any apologies or remorse for how the money was made..." Yes, he made his money 30 years later, when Viacom gave him $3 Billion so the poor boy from Mississippi could tell his family that he finally made his money.
So what transpired during that time: Thousands of Music Videos Portraying: (1) Gangsterism; (2) Black Women Degrading Themselves; (3) Rampant Immoral Behavior (glorifyin killin, pimpin, sexin, smokin, drinkin, hoin). Music Videos were key to launching Hip-Hop music and billions of dollars were made, including Bob Johnson's $3billion.
At anytime, had Bob Johnson sent a memo to the Record Labels with some simple principles (i.e. - "BET Does Not Accept Videos Glorifying Pimpin, Hoin, Killin, Drinkin or Smokin), that would have put an end to it all and record labels would have been forced to clean up their acts.
But instead, the man holding the key who had been given so much, turned and looked the other way, and a sea of murders of rappers, foul language flowin out of 3 year olds mouths, increase criminal activity, on and on and on, and an attitude of: Get Rich or Die Tryin, in the minds of millions of kids worldwide b/c after all, the American Hero (laughable) Bob Johnson showed the way for them all. He was the leading example of to every young kid, rapper, single mother out there: Have no conscience, Have No Remorse, Don't worry about anything except what: Making Money and Getting Paid, even if it Means Loss of Your Very Soul.
Now Fam, this is a guy that I will pray for, because if he doesn't repent and turn from his wicked ways, he'll have a first-class seat on the Hell-Express. I have read so many articles about Rappers this and Rappers that and I was asking myself why do Secular Rappers think how they think, say what they say or do what they do, and then I thought about the examples of leadership that they see and I turned on BET and saw it all and it all became very clear to me. I am convinced that God is going to hold Bob Johnson accountable, so he better enjoy all of his blood-money while he can on the face of this earth b/c he sure can't take it with him and I can almost see him getting tortured by having his eyes glued permanently on the same images of sexin, killin, pimpin and hoin that he allowed to flourish when he could have done something but made a personal decision to do nothing.
I looked at BET yesterday to briefly see Bob Johnson's Legacy of Filth, I haven't let him pimp me and refuse to give BET more than one minute of my eyes a year. Now this man hopes to open up Black Banks called Urban Trust or something like that. I just wonder what the Bank's policy will be: Does anyone see: 40% interest loans, financing of whore houses as a top priority, or anyone that can come up with hip ways to poison the community or minds of kids and adults. I can't wait to read the Bank's Credo: Urban Trust Bank, Where We Have No Obligation to The Community, Just an Obligation to Ourselves and To Make Money for the Great American Hero Bob Johnson.
But here's the kicker using the laws of the universe: Action: Bob Johnson allowed those videos to corrupt the minds of kids and adults, all in his vain pursuit of money - Opposite Reaction: Those same kids, now adults today, focus on Get Rich or Die Tryin without any respect for anything or anybody or the community, so long as they make money. Bob Johnson showed all of these kids and adults alike how to really make it as a pimp, as he pimped the community and with his bank, he's still tryin to keep on pimpin, so don't be pimped.
Now is Bob Johnson really a Hero or Instrument of Evil, but I ask then A Hero to who?: Pimps, Hustlers and Ho's, yes, only God knows but Bob Johnson's works and words speak loudly and that's the stone-cold truth.

Yeah, that's sad.....
It's kind of similar to how Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft and richest man in the world) once said something like "Church is a two-hour-long waste of time on Sundays, when I could be making money." Now don't get me wrong, Bill Gates has done some kind and generous things (such as give food to starving children in Africa).
However, it's obvious that anybody who doesn't know and love Jesus will tend to spend their money selfishly and inappropriately in the long run.
And yes, there have unfortunately been countless people in world history who have tried to gain the whole world yet ended up losing their own soul, and I hope and pray that Bob Johnson isn't one of them, because there's an Enemy out there who would love to pimp Bob, also.
I think those things Bob has said and done are shameful and embarrassing. At the same time, it's sort of a two-way street: Bob didn't force people around America to watch his filth. So yes, he plays a pivotal role in spreading that garbage and is certainly responsible, yet there are millions of individual Americans who also share part of the blame.
If Americans, or even just Christian Americans, refused to watch, listen to, and support that filth, Bob Johnson could be working at a gas station in Biloxi right now or something.
So good for you, keep on taking a stand and refusing to be corrupted!

Man, that's interesting about Bill Gates. I guess it is true that a rich man really does have about as much chance of going to heaven as a camel making it through the eye of a needle. Are there more examples of these billionaire pimps out there that you can think of, other than Gates and Johnson?

Well, I think the world is unfortunately full of rich people who make bad decisions. Part of the reason is that poor people often are greedy, too, but rich people have more opportunities to feed their craving for power and pleasure.
I've recently read in the news about how the President of China came to Bill Gates' home in Seattle this week for a visit. Also, Donald Trump has recently paid money to have a large state park named after him, just as many New York City buildings and things like casinos in Indiana are owned by him and named for him. It's sometimes difficult to say that everything rich people do is morally wrong. Afterall, Mr. Gates had a right to rent out an entire Hawaiian island for his honeymoon, right? But where your treasure is, there you heart will be also. People are giving a message based on what they spend their money on, whether they know it or not.
At least a positive thing is there seem to be some rich people who try to benefit society, too. Back in the 1800s, a couple of the richest men in the world (I believe it was the owner of Sears department stores, and Andrew Carnegie who was famous for steel products) became really concerned about their great wealth. Apparently the two multi-millionaires were friends, and one of the guys told the other that he was afraid of being judged by God or even going to Hell because of his past selfishness. And in the end, the two millionaires started doing much more to try to help the poor and do things to help people.
Also, I've heard that the original founder of K-Mart (He already died.) was a Christian and gave a lot of money to help the poor, and one of the rich ladies who helped McDonald's become famous has also agreed to spend millions or even billions on starting homeless shelters, hospitals, etc.
So in the end, just like anybody, there are godly and generous rich people, and also corrupt and selfish ones. They just have more options for doing either good or bad, and often have more influence on society.

It is so easy to finger point...did you also forget that this same founder maintained the sunday worship services seen on bet..I know he allowed evil to exist without much activism..but dude...its just too easy to fingerpoint..this is like the easiest discussion in the world and I dont believe the most effective way of bringing anyone to the cross...I cant judge this dudes life I only see a single segment and usually the things in front of my face dont add up to much......dont forget satans name means accuser I am pretty sure hes got a thick book on you....truthtella hero or instrument of evil???...hmmm.....oh by the way before you respond you might want to ask yourself why is this dude being so merciful...I will give you a hint...Luke 7:47
