Re :   An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

I guess the question was do we live in a hypocritical society. I suppose I have run across more than a few hypocrites in my life time and  I have certainly played that role as well. Is there a certain group of people that you feel are more hypocritical than the rest of us? I think that hypocrisy may just be a natural result of the selfishness inside all of us as a result of original sin. We all have a tendency to hold others to a higher standard than we hold ourselves to. As far as the list of things after the question, I am not sure exactly what aspect of each one you find hypocritical or what you think the solution should be. Is the solution to our problems  more government or more Jesus?  Should we tax the rich or tithe ten percent? Should we all have the same opportunity to succeed  or just be handed the same thing? What is the solution? More specifically, what do you  believe  the biggest problems in our society are and what group of people are  responsible for  causing those problems?

Theology for Children

By: Jeff Welch

What is Theology?

Theology is a big word that means “to study and learn about God”. Since God made

all of us, we should do our very best to learn everything that we can about Him and what

He wants us to do.

The Bible

The Bible is the Word of God. Everything that God wanted us to know is in the Bible.

God told the men who wrote the Bible what to write. They wrote down all the things that

God wanted to tell us. There are no mistakes in the Bible. Everything that we read in the

Bible is true.

God

There is only one true God who is made up of three persons, God the Father, God the

Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Together these three are called the Trinity. They are

completely united and form the one true God. All three of these persons are God, and one

is not more important than either of the other two.

God is spirit and does not have a body like we do. He is everywhere all the time.

Everything in the whole universe was made by God. God knows everything that has ever

happened and everything that ever will happen. He even knows what we are thinking.

God is so powerful that He can do anything He wants, but since God is perfectly good He

will never do anything bad. God never Changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and

forever.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus came to earth and became a man. Even though Jesus became a man, He is still God.

Jesus is God and man at the same time. Jesus became a man so He could tell us about

God, and save us from our sins. Jesus saved us from our sins by dying on the cross. We

will not have to be punished for our sins, because Jesus took our place and was punished

for us. If we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died for our sins then

God will forgive our sins and let us live in Heaven with him forever. After Jesus died on

the cross, God raised Him up from the dead to prove that He really was Gods Son and

that God really would forgive our sins if we believe in Him.

Now Jesus is in heaven with God the Father. One day he will come back to get

everyone who believes in Him and take them back to Heaven with Him.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with God the Father and God the Son. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit

to help us when he went up to Heaven. The Holy Spirit helps us to know that we are

sinners and that we need Jesus. When we believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes into our

hearts and helps us to do the things that God wants us to do. The Holy Spirit also told the

men who wrote the Bible what to write.

Man

God created man in His own image. Since God does not have a body, this does not mean that we look like God, it means we can think like God can think.

The reason God created man was so that man would know how wonderful God is and

enjoy Him. Adam and Eve were supposed to live there life the way God wanted them to

and t

Re :   An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

I do not necasarily believe that every bad thing that happens is divine judgment poured out by God. While that may be the case sometimes I don't see how we could ever tell the difference unless the event were accompanied by a miraculous sign confirming it as a message from God. The fact of the matter is that we live in a fallen world and bad things happen. Yes, I do believe that God is sovereign and if something was not caused by Him it was at least allowed to happen by Him because he certainly has the power to stop anything from happening.
I'm not sure in what context you are talking about the war or economics. I don't believe we were attacked on 9/11 because God was punishing our nation. We were attacked because we are a country that some radical  Muslims hate. They hate us because we are not a Muslim nation.  As far as the economy is concerned, any country  whose citizens  spend $19 for every $18 that they make is going to have to deal with some sort of backlash from that sort of foolishness eventually. That is simply cause and effect and right now we are reaping the natural consequences of what we have sown.
I don't suppose I believe that every  event that happens is orchestrated by God but I do believe that Gods ULTIMATE will is going to come to pass at the time He has decided it is going to.
Another thing to consider is this. The Bible says that the wages of sin is death AND that all have sinned. Looking at it in that light  the real question is not "why does God allow bad things to happen to people?" but rather "why does God allow ANY of us to live another second when we clearly DESERVE death?"

Re :   An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

Well that's not an easy one! Theologians have argued over this subject for hundreds of years.  We know that God "hardened the heart" of Pharaoh so I guess  that is at least one person who did not have the ability to believe. I actually lean more towards a Calvinist predestination (but not all the way!) than most people do but ultimately I believe that this is one of those mysteries that we will never fully understand until we get to heaven. The Bible says that we were "chosen before the world began" AND it says that "anyone who believes on Christ will be saved". Since the Bible says both then both must be true. Since we do not know who was chosen and who was not we must "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to EVERY nation" and let God sort out the rest. One of the biggest realizations for me that helped me get over my own unbelief was that whatever God does is the right and fair thing. God is the very source of right and cannot and will not  do  wrong or unfair things. So even if I don't completely understand why some people believe and some do not I know by faith that God is fair and just.

Re :   An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

I believe as Christians we must be able to judge without being judgmental. It is a very fine line to walk sometimes. There is nothing wrong with making a moral judgment based on scripture about wether something is right or wrong. However, we must not cross over into thinking we are better than someone or a certain group of people because we do not engage in whatever sin they may be engaged in. I have no problem declaring that the Bible says  homosexuality is wrong. That does not mean however that I think I am better than homosexuals  and as a matter of fact most homosexuals have probably never done some of the terrible things that I used to do to people before I got saved. It is comforting for us to look around at anyone we can find who is "worse" than us to make  ourselves feal better about our own conduct but God does not grade on a curve and without  His grace we all recieve an F. What we need to make clear to people is that we are  judging there actions as right or wrong based on what God says and that we are doing it because we LOVE them not because we hate them. Remember, ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. When I am talking to  unsaved people  about biblical matters I make it very clear how worthless I used to be before I was saved so they KNOW that I dont think I am better than them.  A good rule to follow is to make sure you are spending more time judging your own conduct than the conduct of other people.

Re :   An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

sorry i am late on getting back i like what you said on obama i agree i am for history but it does not change the reality of our current sichuation on fuel and taxes especially the povity in this country , my next question this week is;

as christians can we judge?

Re :   An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

I follow politics VERY closely and I have never heard Oboma say anything that would lead me to believe that He would lead this country based on Biblical principles (or the constitution for that matter). As a matter of fact I don't think ANYBODY could tell you what principles Oboma plans to base his decisions on. Change? Change to what? I am very much anti Oboma (and only slightly less anti Mcain!) because he has the most liberal voting record of ANY current senator.
The bottom line is this. Our country is in need of revival and a revival will NEVER start in the white house no matter who happens to be living there at the time. Revival starts at MY house and YOUR house. Godly politicians do not get elected by an ungodly nation. The people in charge are merely a reflection of the people who elected them so you can not change a country from the top down but rather from the bottom up.
That being said, it  is our responsibility to pray for those in charge regardless of what we think about there politics.
